Abstract

Ovaj diplomski rad istražuje povijest, razvoj i implementaciju zvuka u računalnim i videoigrama, s posebnim naglaskom na chiptune glazbu i trackere. Počevši od ranih arkadnih igara i flipera, rad prati tehnološki napredak koji je omogućio kvalitetniju i raznovrsniju upotrebu zvuka, sve do današnjih videoigara. Analiziraju se ključni momenti u razvoju osobnih računala i kućnih konzola. Dio rada posvećen je implementaciji zvuka u moderne videoigre koristeći alate poput game enginea i middlewarea. Kroz studije igara Thief: The Dark Project, Ape Out, Unpacking i Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, rad ilustrira različite pristupe dizajnu zvuka. Također se obrađuje i podžanr ritamskih igara, s primjerima igara Taiko no Tatsujin, Thumper i Crypt of the Necrodancer. Rad potvrđuje važnost zvuka kao ključnoga elementa za stvaranje atmosfere i interaktivnosti u videoigrama.

Abstract (english)

This thesis explores the history, development, and implementation of sound in computer and video games, with a particular focus on chiptune music and trackers. Starting with early arcade games and pinball machines, the paper traces the technological advancements that enabled higher quality and more diverse use of sound, up to modern video games. Key moments in the development of personal computers and home consoles are analyzed. A portion of the thesis is dedicated to the implementation of sound in modern video games using tools like game engines and middleware. Through case studies of Thief: The Dark Project, Ape Out, Unpacking, and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, the thesis illustrates different approaches to sound design. The subgenre of rhythm games is also explored, with examples such as Taiko no Tatsujin, Thumper, and Crypt of the Necrodancer. The paper confirms the importance of sound as a key element in creating atmosphere and interactivity in video games.
